KOYAMBEDU WHOLESALE MARKET COMPLEX

The adverse impacts of unsatisfactory quality of life in general in the CBD inspire not only upon the public at large but also by all those who are directly engaged in wholesale trade viz., the traders, labourers, transport operators, the authorities in charge of traffic regulation, city maintenance and conservancy etc., Recognising the close linkages with the trade, movement of goods and economic life of the city relatively painless solutions have been worked out for decongestion of the city by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority(CMDA).  As a possible solution to the above said problems of Central Business District (CBD), CMDA has planned for establishment of new Wholesale Market Complexes and new city level Bus and Truck Terminals at sites which are well clear of congested areas and also without being much far away from the City. The Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) is one such project evolved to decongest the CBD.  The KWMC spreads over an area of 295 acres.  It abuts Poonamalee High Road and Nesapakkam Road and can be easily accessed from all parts of City.  In Phase-I, the Wholesale Market for Perishables have been developed by constructing 3,194 shops among these 2,948 shops were allotted.
